The 1954 Milan Indians basketball team was the inspiration for the classic 1986 movie Hoosiers. Known as the “Milan Miracle," this high school basketball team became the smallest school ever (enrollment of only 161) to win a single class state basketball tournament in Indiana (beating heavily favored Muncie). The next day 40,000 people descended on Milan (population 1,150) as the team returned home from Indianapolis.
